Plush Toy Owls ~ Emma’s Birthday

My Niece “Emma” will be turning “2” Feb. 7th. My younger sister “Joanne” and “I” decided to make toy owls for her.

Little girls tend to like many characters at this age…one minute they love “Toopy & Binoo” the next it’s “Bubble Guppies” …OH… and we can’t forget “Cinderella” & “Elmo“..well …you get what I am saying. Right now…Emma loves all of these (and many more)..but now she’s LOVING..Owls“. 🙂

Joe & I were looking online at “owl” party supplies and saw a pic of a homemade toy owl. Joanne said,Hey ..that can’t be that hard to make…let’s make some for Emma!“. Joanne had fabric left over from curtains and misc. things she’s making to add to Emma’s new room, so we went with that!

I’m not super skilled at sewing..but when I put my mind to it…I do pretty well..I guess…hahaha! Since I do not own a sewing machine..every piece was sewn by hand!

Joanne cut out the main outer owl pattern and ironed on the EMMA letters. I cut out the eyes, nose, wings and stuffed the owls and sewed everything.

I am very pleased with how they turned out! SUPER cute!!!! 🙂

Maybe once I’m more skilled at sewing…I can explain specifics of how to sew these adorable owls. For now…all I can do is show you the sections…hahah!

First you want to choose your FELT material

Next, cut out your OWL SHAPEImage

Next, cut out your WHITE OWL EYES

Then, cut out your black circles, diamond nose and

half moon wings…you get the idea 🙂

You want to sew the 2 pieces of the owl pattern inside out (after all the eyes, nose and wings are sewn on)..you turn it out…by doing this, you won’t see the stitches. Leave a few inches open at the bottom of the owls…that’s where you will stuff it..and do the final sewing of the last gap that is left opened. This site is very informative..it shows how to do the inside out sewing..and then turn it back to the proper side etc. How to make a plush toy

Here is an example of how to leave an opening and how to do the final HIDDEN stitch to close the gap.  This girl shows a final knot at the end. I did it where you did not see my knot and I hid it inside the toy. Hard to explain..will have to make my own video of it one day.  🙂

Here are the buttons that are only on the LARGER owl.

We used basic buttons for the other 3…but

the large button ones are SO perfect!
